Community Involvement

Getting Involved in 3 Easy Steps

Step 1

Better Preparation

1) Insure that S.O.D. speakers come with prepared comments and try not to repeat what others have already said
2) Speakers should occasionally come with graphics that can be displayed at Council and Advisory Body meetings
3) Recruit more supporters to regularly attend our core committee meetings
4) Get on Facebook to engage a younger audience
5) Complete our website
Council or Advisory Bodies
6) Invite to our meetings members of advisory bodies who are sympathetic to our cause
7) Continue meeting individually with Council Members

Step 2

Lobbying Efforts

8) Form and nurture alliances with SLO Green Build, RQN and the Alliance of SLO Neighborhoods (when and if it is resurrected)
Task Completion
9) Form sub-committees to address agenda items which take up too much time to fully discuss at our regular meetings
10) Resurrect the Downtown Business Sub-Committee and bring back Paul Karlen or other small business owners to participate

Step 3

Prodding & Timely Participation

11) Continue prodding the City to develop a Downtown Pedestrian Plan
12) “Ride herd” on the LUCE Citizen’s Advisory Task Force recommendations
13) Maintain on-going participation in the Downtown Concept Plan Update by attending upcoming Creative Vision Team meetings through December 31, 2016
Continue Doing What Already Works
14) Continue initiating workshops involving local citizens and City officials
15) Continue speaking at public hearings and writing emails/letters to the Council and Advisory Bodies
16) Continue writing letters to the local news media
